Description

Seas of time for the Oris Aquis Date

The Oris Aquis Date is the result of extensive research and collaborative thinking. It's a fully functional watch range that doesn't compromise on style, and is equally at home in the urban jungle as it is deep under the waves.

The Aquis Date (01 400 7769 4154-07 8 22 09PEB) is a reliable diver's watch with a groundbreaking in-house automatic movement. Oris claims that the Aquis Date can go through life completely maintenance-free for the first 10 years.

The joy of mechanics

In our digital, connected, touch-enabled world, the joy of mechanics has taken on a new meaning. Whether looking at a Ferris wheel with its open action, or looking through the back of a mechanical watch like the Oris Aquis Date, it warms us to see how things work.

At Oris, we are driven by this pleasure. Because if there's one thing our watches should do, it's put a smile on your face. We know that nobody needs a mechanical watch. But the simple pleasure of owning one and watching it work makes life so much more enjoyable. That's what we mean by the fun of mechanics.

The new standard for the Aquis Date

Caliber 400 is an all-new movement, independently conceived by Oris, and sets new standards with a new groundbreaking in-house automatic mechanical movements. The Aquis Date has a five-day power reserve (120 hours), is highly resistant to magnetism and comes with over 10 years of warranty.

Five-day power reserve

When designing Caliber 400, Oris engineers realized that today we might not wear the same watch every day. If you put a standard mechanical watch away for one or two days, it will stop running as its energy reserve diminishes.

Caliber 400 has a five-day power reserve, so it will keep running if you haven't worn your watch between, say, Thursday and Tuesday. This extended operating time comes via two barrels, both of which house an extended mainspring, each long enough to store two-and-a-half days of power reserve. This makes the Oris Aquis Date even more special.

A more stable rotor system

One of Oris' fundamental ambitions with Caliber 400 was to eliminate problems before they arise. Oris engineers have determined that one of the most common problems with automatic mechanical movements is the ball bearing system that spins the rotor.

This is a critical element of an automatic watch, as the rotor rotates to generate the power stored in the mainspring, which is housed in the barrel.

That is why Oris has completely removed the ball bearing and replaced it with a low-friction sliding bearing system, in which a metal pin runs through a lubricated sleeve. This is much less complex, very efficient and involves less wear and tear, making it less likely to break down.

Increased resistance to magnetic fields

Most Swiss watches will become magnetized when exposed to the strong magnetic forces encountered in everyday life. When this happens, they become less accurate and may stop altogether.

To safely expose a watch to this magnetism, Oris designed Caliber 400 using over 30 non-ferrous and anti-magnetic components, including a silicone escape wheel and a silicone armature.

When tested in the Dubois lab, Caliber 400 deviated less than 10 seconds per day after exposure to 2,250 gauss.

For context, the latest version of the ISO 764 standard for anti-magnetic watches requires a watch to be accurate within 30 seconds per day after exposure to 200 gauss to qualify as anti-magnetic. Caliber 400 registered one-third of the allowable deviation after exposure to more than 11 times the allowable force.

10 year warranty

Finally, a modern luxury watch must also be reliable. Every Oris watch with caliber 400 has over 10 years warranty.
