MAINTAINING SILVER JEWELRY
Why is my silver jewelery turning gray or black? A question we often get as jewelers. Where many people think that there is something wrong with the authenticity of the jewel, that discoloration is actually a sign that it concerns real silver jewellery. The tarnish is a natural reaction of silver to oxygen and the acidity of your skin, also called oxidation. The speed with which this inevitable process occurs depends on several factors, including any medication use by the wearer. Because certain medicines increase the pH value of the skin, the silver discolors faster.
Silver jewelry can be easily cleaned with a silver polishing cloth. Depending on the degree of oxidation, this will not always produce the desired result. In that case we can clean your silver jewelery in an ultrasonic bath and polish it until it shines like it has never been worn!
MAINTAINING GOLD JEWELRY
Gold jewelry needs to be cleaned and polished less often than silver jewelry. However, dirt and grease can also accumulate on gold jewelry, causing the precious metal to lose its shine. Dull gold can be refurbished by brushing it with a cloth or soft toothbrush, moistened in lukewarm soapy water with green soap.
CARING FOR PLATINUM JEWELRY
Platinum jewelry is virtually indestructible. It is therefore not without reason that this durable, rare and pure precious metal is often chosen for engagement and wedding rings. Grease and dirt on platinum can be removed with a cloth or soft toothbrush. In addition to polishing, Brunott is happy to take care of your platinum jewelry. If desired, we can fully restore the original shine of dull platinum jewelry!
CARING FOR JEWELRY WITH GEMSTONES
Not only precious metals, also gemstones need care every now and then. Most colored stones can be safely cleaned with lukewarm soapy water, a mild detergent and a soft brush. Porous colored stones (such as turquoise, malachite and lapis lazuli) tend to absorb chemicals and moisture, so brushing with a soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Do you have a piece of jewelry with an opal? Then avoid bright light, heat, ammonia and ultrasonic cleaners and carefully polish the stone with a dry cloth.
Do you have doubts about the hardness of the stone and the associated maintenance method? You can always contact Brunott with questions about cleaning your jewelry with gemstones.
MAINTAINING DIAMOND JEWELRY
The almost indestructible, powerful diamond can also lose its shine. Fortunately, the irresistible brilliance is very easy to restore by regularly soaking the diamond piece in a solution of lukewarm water and a mild detergent.
Of course you can also opt for professional cleaning at Brunott. We restore the original shine of the diamond and immediately check the piece of jewelery for wear or loose settings.
