Oris Aquis New York Harbor

The oystercatcher of Oris

The new limited edition of Oris supports the Billion Oyster Project, a highly ambitious non-profit organization that aims to bring one billion oysters back to New York Harbor.

So far, the Billion Oyster Project has seeded 14.5 acres of the New York Harbor, introducing some 75 million young oysters to their new homes. This was a monumental effort involving more than 11,000 volunteers and 8,000 students.

Pete Malinowski, executive director and co-founder of the Billion Oyster Project, hopes to eventually involve more than a million people in the project and bring back more than a billion oysters by 2035. It is promising to see organizations like Billion Oyster Project taking the initiative to restore rather than preserve natural habitats and processes. It's a project worth promoting.

Over Oris

Oris' headquarters is located in Hölstein, Switzerland. The brand dates back to 1903, but it takes more than a year before the brand takes off.

Oris makes its watches entirely in-house. At its peak, just before the start of the Second World War, Oris employed more than a thousand people who were picked up and brought home by their own bus services.

In 1970, the brand launches its first chronograph, the Chronoris. Oris, like so many watchmakers, has been hit hard by the quartz crisis. In the late 1970s, Oris was taken over by management and presented the now acclaimed Big Crown model in 1982. A balanced collection, use of good timepieces and exemplary quality control make the modern Oris popular.

The Aquis New York Harbor is a special story in itself. Oris supports the Billion Oyster Project, a highly ambitious non-profit organization that aims to bring one billion oysters back to New York Harbor. Oris regularly uses special dials. After the Oris Upcycle, this is the next watch with a special dial. A pearlescent color with a pigmented background has created this beautiful composition. This watch has a limited edition of only 2000 pieces worldwide.
