The model

The latest Prospex Speedtimer chronograph is inspired by Seiko's first stopwatch designed specifically for timekeeping at winter sports events. For example, the original model was the official timekeeping instrument at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. All specifications of this stopwatch were designed for flawless timekeeping in winter conditions. Such as the black dial, which had to ensure good legibility during competitions in the snow.

Dial and case

The color scheme of the new Speedtimer is inspired by the original 1972 stopwatch. The red indices and sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position of the sandblasted matte black dial improve readability by significantly reducing reflections from sunlight and snow. This design theme is also visible in the steel case, which is finished with a black hard coating.

Caliber 8R46

The 8R46 Seiko caliber is an Automatic Chronograph with date display and tachymeter. The watch automatically charges itself during wear by converting the wearer's arm and wrist movements into energy. Movement of the watch causes the mainspring of the watch to wind. This spring is the source of energy. Manual winding of the movement is also possible. When the watch is fully charged, the watch has a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. The tick rate of this automatic is 28,800 per hour and the watch has 34 jewels . The stopwatch measures up to 30 minutes. The 8R caliber is manufactured entirely in-house.
